Caravan holidays have never been more popular and with Caravan Industry surveys showing that more people are planning to take holidays and short breaks, and regional travel being high on the list, it’s never been a better time to explore our own backyard and help out rural communities in the process.
Silo art is attracting travellers to rural areas and you don’t have to go far out of your way to be amongst it. There are more than 50 painted silos around Australia, and with art trails linking the towns, it’s easy to put an itinerary together as part of a bigger holiday plan to bring a much needed economic boost to regions that have been through tough times in recent years.
Every state and territory in Australia now has silo art or water tank art, so it doesn’t take much of a detour to see these grand scale murals. More to the point, it’s possible to plan a trip around visiting the silos and give back to these small communities that have provided these artworks for all of us to enjoy.
Since 2015 when the first silo mural was painted in Northam in Western Australia, the concept of using these giant structures as art canvases has spread around the country and enabled rural communities to benefit, especially since the boom in caravan holidays and Australian’s holidaying at home.
